Senator Bartlett Pleased with Larrabee Village Funding
April 27, 2006
Augusta - Senator Philip Bartlett II (D-Cumberland County) is pleased
to announce that the legislature has agreed to restore funding
for the Independent Housing Services Program at Larrabee Village
in Westbrook.
The funding for this program, which provides seniors residing at
Larrabee Village with services that help them to live in their
own apartments and avoid nursing home care, was cut by the Department
of Health and Human Services as part of a consolidation of services
in last year's budget. Thanks to the efforts of the Legislature,
led by Senator Bartlett and Representative Jim Campbell (R-Newfield),
the money to keep this program alive was put into the recently
passed supplemental budget.
"
I am very gratified that we were able to get this funding back," Senator
Bartlett said. "The people affected by this cut are
older and need these services to live on their own."
"
Many seniors moved into Larrabee Village with the understanding
that these services would always be there for them, and they planned
their lives accordingly," Bartlett added. "I am very
glad things worked out the way they did."
At a recent meeting at the Department of Health and Human Services,
Larrabee Village officials were told that, while the details had
yet to be finalized, they will continue to receive at least as
much money for the program as they do now.
