Statement from Senate Majority Leader Bartlett
on Senator Snowe's Support of Health Care Reform

I commend Senator Olympia Snowe for her vote in favor of health care reform today in the Finance Committee of the United States Senate. Her vote adds a Republican voice of support to this historic legislation, and it demonstrates the significance of bipartisan collaboration. To be sure, the debate is far from over and the contours of the final legislation have yet to be ironed out.  But it would not have gotten to this point without the independent and thoughtful leadership of Senator Snowe.

We commonly say, “As Maine goes, so goes the nation.” Senator Snowe’s vote today reminds us how true that statement is. I urge her and her fellow Senators to continue to support a strong health care reform bill ensuring that all Americans have access to affordable health care.
